Jerry Kirkby, Chair
Jerry Kirkby was appointed to the charity’s governance group in 2011. At that time Jerry was a chief officer in Surrey Police. He attended an event at Coldingley Prison during 2010 and was so impressed with the work being carried out to divert young people away from crime that he volunteered to join the Board.
Jerry had a long association with Surrey Police, beginning his career in Guildford as a Constable in 1983. In 1998 he transferred to the Metropolitan Police on promotion to Chief Inspector. Jerry returned to Surrey and was promoted to Divisional Commander for West Surrey in 2002. In June 2005 he became National Director for the Neighbourhood Policing Programme and led a team that supported the 43 forces in implementing Neighbourhood Policing across England and Wales. In 2009 Jerry returned again to Surrey when he was promoted to Assistant Chief Constable.
Jerry retired from Surrey Police in 2013. Since that time Jerry has worked as an Associate for Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary. He has taken a lead role in developing their victim engagement strategy and designing new approaches to inspections of police forces in England and Wales.
Jerry was appointed as chair of the charity in 2012.
