KeepOut at HMP Send KeepOut has offered workshops for young women at HMP Send since September 2008. These professionally developed programmes are aimed at young people who are already engaged in a programme of intervention or prevention. Each week, the KeepOut team provides young people with information to make informed choices not to offend. We run low and medium risk programmes The first meeting to discuss establishing the scheme within this closed female training prison in Surrey was held in July 2007. Since then, over 30 women prisoners have worked with the KeepOut team in the first two years of operation. After their release from prison, several of them have gone on to join organisations that provide services for young people in the community. This is what was achieved with young people and prisoners by KeepOut at HMP Send in 2009-2010: • 372 females attended KeepOut events • 49 different groups participated in the programme • 9 adult showcases were facilitated by the prisoner team • 2 staff training events raised awareness for prison officers • 3 female prisoners achieved full NVQ Level 3 Advice and Guidance • 3 female prisoners achieved units of Level 3 NVQ programme Advice and Guidance • 13 Female prisoners participated in and received a certificate for training in a wide range of areas, including safeguarding children and young people, group work, programme planning and evaluation processes, facilitation skills, drama skills, conflict resolution. | ||||||
