KeepOut programmes at HMP Coldingley • This one-off intervention focuses them on personal responsibility; consequences and victim empathy. • The young people learn from prisoners about the effect of their behaviour on others and the penalties they face if they decide to be involved in anti-social or offending activities. • Young people will experience a broad range of delivery methods including group discussions, role play, prisoner testimonials, personal feedback, interactive games and exercises. Medium Risk – Extended Programme • This programme could focuses on topics such as managing anger; alcohol and drug use; gang culture; weapon related crime; anti-social behaviour. • The young people are enabled to take stock of their offending behaviour and the potential consequences to both themselves, their peers, families and the wider community. The programme encourages them to be more responsible individuals within the society in which they live, and delivers more understanding of the implications of being involved in certain activities. • Young people will experience a broad range of delivery methods including themed group discussions, role play, prisoner testimonials, personal feedback, interactive games and exercises. | High risk – Enhanced Programme options 1, 2 and 3 Programme 1 • This focuses the young people on the role of offending; image; triggers and decisions; weapon related crime; victim awareness; relationships; identity; understanding and managing feelings; loss and grief; understanding anger; maintaining change. • The young people are assisted in addressing the issues that underlie their offending and are helped to develop new skills to avoid getting into further trouble. This process emphasises both personal responsibility and the choices open to them. • Young people will experience activities that draw from cognitive behaviour techniques that incorporate a broad range of delivery methods including group discussions, role play, frozen pictures, prisoner testimonials, guest speakers, personal feedback, interactive games and exercises. Programme 2 • This targets young men on ISSP orders, but other referrals can be considered. Young people who have completed KeepOut Programme 1 may also be offered this support. • These young people are assisted in exploring topics around their offending behaviour, particularly to improve their problem solving, consequential thinking, social communication skills, and self-esteem. • Young people will experience activities which incorporate discussions, role-play and team exercises. | Programme 3 • This targets young people aged 14-17years who may be experiencing some troubling issues in their lives in relation to violent and /or abusive behaviours within their close relationships. • Young people gain an understanding of what is domestic violence/abuse; the impact of domestic violence/abuse; the cycle of violence and the role of choice; whether behaviour is learnt; relationships and expressing feelings. • The programme helps young people to explore issues around power and control, particularly when misused within their relationships. It also explores developing alternative strategies for dealing with violence and aggression and helps them to develop more respectful and helpful relationships. • Young people will experience a programme which draws from cognitive behaviour techniques including discussions, role play, quizzes, video and testimonials.
