Crime Diversion Scheme is the brainchild of current and former prisoners who want to divert potential offenders, particularly young people, away from crime.
It has two main objectives: to support the rehabilitation and resettlement of prisoners, by providing them with training which will help them develop skills and competencies for life outside prison; and to influence and inform young people who are at risk of offending. To these ends, the inmates provide a variety of interactive learning workshops.
In any given week, Crime Diversion Scheme facilitates a number of interventionist activities including a Tuesday interactive drama event within the prison to illustrate the impact of crime on all those involved. The young people explore scenarios based on personal choices. The inmates explain how their choices brought them to be in prison, the issues they face on the inside and what further problems await them on the outside.

“The School Inclusion Programme is greatly enhanced by our visits to Coldingley and I certainly enjoyed my recent visit as well. There is an identifiable impact on the attitude and behaviour of the young people after this visit which contributes to the success of the work. We are very careful to prepare them well for the experience and to ensure that we link follow up activities and discussions to it."
